THE WORLD AROUND US
KENYA
KENYA WORK
In Room 4 P6&7 have been very busy learning about their World Around Us topic – Kenya. They have been researching facts and information about Kenya. They know where Kenya is located in the world and what the climate, population and landscape is like. They also know that Kenya is home to some of the world’s most beautiful animals.
They have also been working on some beautiful sunset silhouettes which we have now put on display in the corridor.

Caleb lived in Nigeria in Africa from after he was born until he was two. His parents were missionaries there. Caleb brought in some of the African clothing he and his parents wore to show the class. Some pupils volunteered to model them. They all looked very African. He also showed us a beautiful calendar poster his parents had made with photos of them all in Nigeria during his first year. We really enjoyed seeing the items he brought us and hearing Caleb explain to us who wore them. Caleb’s Nigerian name is Omojo. Thank you Caleb.
OUR KENYA DISPLAY
The pupils have been busy designing tourism posters to encourage people to visit Kenya. They have also been researching the BIG 5 animals and making information leaflets about them in pairs on the computer using the Publisher programme.
REMEMBRANCE
As we reflected on the sacrifice of those who gave their tomorrows for our today, P6 & 7 in Room 4 painted beautiful stained glass window poppy paintings. They also completed some activities about and explored the importance of Remembrance and the significance of the poppy as the symbol of Remembrance.
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

ACROSTIC NAME POEMS
P6 & 7 began their time in Room 4 by creating acrostic name poems about themselves. They typed up their poems and added either a border, photos or a background. They really worked hard on these and they look great.
Visit from Nicholas the new librarian at Maghera Library
We had great fun with Nicholas the new librarian at Maghera Library on Roald Dahl day. He read us an extract from his favourite Roald Dahl book The Twits where Mrs Twit puts real worms in her husband’s spaghetti. Nicholas then let a teacher try out his wiggly worms he’d brought with him. The children voted for Mrs Cunningham our Literacy Co-ordination to sample them. We really enjoyed our time with Nicholas. He also gave each family a leaflet with information explaining how they could join their local library. It is a great way to read books and it’s absolutely free.
